FIN 201 Introduction to Risk Management 4 cr.

Introduction to risk management; including: insurance, loss exposure, regulation, insurance carriers, reinsurance, marketing, underwriting, and claims adjusting. This course helps prepare students for the INS 21 national examination administered by the Insurance Institute of America.

FIN 224 Personal Financial Management 4 cr.

Development of practical solutions for routine problems faced in personal financial affairs. Major topics to be discussed are tax return preparation, tax planning, insurance, property, consumer credit, financial institutions, investing and other current topics.

FIN 351 Financial Management I 4 cr.

Financial management of corporations; management of short, intermediate and long term funds; capital structure; securities markets; and financing growth and development; emphasis is on interpretation of financial accounting measurements.

FIN 352 Financial Management II 4 cr.

Financial decision making in the modern corporation; issues include capital budgeting, capital structure, dividend policy, working capital management, corporate reorganization and liquidation. Lectures, problem solving and case studies will be used to stimulate and reinforce learning.

FIN 354 Money and Capital Markets 4 cr.

Analysis of money market instruments in conjunction with monetary policy influences. The markets and their role in channeling liquid and investment funds to the private and public sectors. The roles of major financial institutions (pension funds, insurance companies, banks) as both suppliers and users of market capital.
FIN 369 Introduction to Technical Analysis 4 cr.

Technical analysis is used by banks, brokerage houses, investment companies and investors all over the world. This class introduces the student to the history and current state of technical analysis. Students develop a foundation of technical analysis tools that will allow them to analyze financial investments from a perspective of risk, return and timing. Course time is divided between classroom instruction and laboratory experience in the College of Business trading room.

FIN 375 Commercial Insurance 4 cr.

Commercial property and liability insurance lines; includes commercial property, business-owners policy, commercial liability, workers’ compensation, professional liability, environmental and aviation liability insurance. Course helps prepare students for the INS 23 national examination administered by the insurance institute of America.

FIN 413 New Venture Finance: Capital Formation and Legal Issues 4 cr.

Summarizes and ties together the materials presented in the entrepreneurship core of classes. Extends the student’s knowledge in this area through the incorporation of cases based on creating and managing new business ventures; this includes various methods of raising capital for new and growing ventures and a thorough examination of the legal issues involved in such an undertaking.

FIN 433 Insurance Operations 4 cr.

Property and casualty insurance company operations; topics include insurance financials, property underwriting, liability underwriting, insurance pricing, liability and property claims; loss control practices, marketing and selling insurance, reinsurance, management, and strategic planning. This course covers the inner workings of the industry.

Estate planning principles and techniques as they relate to financial planning. Includes methods of property transfer, estate planning documentation, principles of estate, gift and trust taxation, features and classification of trusts, the use of life insurance in the estate planning process and tools and techniques for general estate planning.

Financial management of multinational firms including management of international sources of funds, dealing with international exchange, international expansion and investment.
FIN 460 Employee Benefits and Retirement Planning 4 cr.

Overview of the types of employee benefits program available to employers for their employees with special emphasis on retirement planning. The course also explores retirement planning for individuals with problems, cases, lectures and discussions.

FIN 462 Investment Analysis 4 cr.

Types of investment securities, bonds, stocks, valuation of common stocks, valuation and grading of bonds and preferred stocks; risks associated with each form of investment. Policies in construction and management of investment portfolio. Current trends and timing of investments.
