Program Overview
Where will the next earthquake strike? What is the probability of flooding where you live or work? Are you interested in the physical processes that affect our lives and living on Earth? If so, then consider pursuing a minor in Earth Science. The Earth Science minor at NMU provides students with a thorough knowledge of Earth’s physical environment including its geology, weather and climate, astronomical relationships, and hydrology, as well as excellent field experience, locally and abroad.

- AS 103 Observational and Solar System Astronomy [QUAR] (4 cr.)
Electives (4 cr.)
Choose one course from the following:

- GC 365 Historical Geology (4 cr.)
- GC 370 Geomorphology (4 cr.)

Declaring the Earth Science Minor
We strongly encourage you to meet with an academic adviser in EEGS before declaring the minor. Kelsey Avey (kavey@nmu.edu; schedule a meeting) is our Embedded Success Specialist, and she can provide valuable guidance and will work with you to develop a course plan.
When you are ready to declare:
- Visit the Academic and Career Advisement Office's (ACAC) Change or Declare a Major page.
- Enter your name, NMU IN, email address, class standing, check the "change my major" box, and input any additional relevant comments.
- Submit the declare request.
