Planning your future
Faculty and staff in the Department of Earth, Environmental and Geographical Sciences cannot over-emphasize how important it is to meet with your academic advisor and to take personal responsibility for understanding your plan of study. In addition to assisting students with their semester schedules, EEGS faculty mentors and our Success Advisors also do the following:
- Review your unofficial degree evaluation, which contains a record of your completed coursework and grades;
- Process course substitutions and directed study paperwork as needed;
- Help you understand how course sequence, prerequisite coursework, general education requirements, and double-counting affect your plan of study;
- Recommend complementary minors and courses;
- Assist in resolving scheduling issues so that you graduate in a timely fashion;
- Discuss internship, graduate school, and career opportunities.

Preparing for Course Registration, Summer and Fall 2024
1. Review the Summer 2024 Course Scheduling Book PDFs and Fall 2024 Course Scheduling Book PDFs found at the University Registrar's site under Current News. Pay particular attention to the section number, course title, and building/room to determine the course format. Will the course:
- Meet on-campus (section number 01, 02, 03, etc.)
- Be asynchronous Web-based (meet online with no specific days/times with section numbers 50, 51, etc.)
- Be synchronous Web-based (meet on-line with specific days/times with section number 60, 61, etc.),
- Be hybrid (in-person some of the time with Web-based activities for the remainder of the contact hours, with section number 70, 71, etc.)?
You may also search for the courses through myNMU after the schedule has been finalized, about one week before registration begins.
2. Review the Advising Notes (coming soon) for guidance as you prepare for registration.
3. Review the set of flyers for Summer 2024 and Fall 2024 describing the courses we are offering in the summer and fall terms.
4. Schedule an appointment with your academic advisor prior to your course registration date/time. Please note that each advisor schedules their appointments differently. You may have already received an e-mail telling you their preferred format to schedule an appointment, but if not, then please e-mail your advisor directly. Please contact eegs@nmu.edu if you want help scheduling an appointment with your advisor.
5. Note that any holds (advisor, financial, transcript) that are placed on your account will prevent you from registering at your designated registration day/time until the holds are lifted.
6. Figure out what time your registration window opens at this link. Remember that the time is based on credits already earned, not including credits that are in progress this semester. Guidelines for how the waitlist works are here.
