Alumni

Alumni are invited to join President Fritz Erickson for a fireside chat on Wednesday, May 12 at 7 p.m. Eastern. President Erickson will share campus updates, answer questions, and virtually connect with the Wildcat community. The event will begin with a welcome from NMU Alumni Association Board of Directors President Jan Haapala ’02.

Questions will be taken LIVE during the event via the Q&A function on Zoom, and alumni can submit questions ahead of time during registration. Registration is required. Once alumni register, they will receive the Zoom link to join the conversation. Those who register are automatically entered into a t-shirt drawing and five winners will be chosen during the event.

Northern Now is a monthly, digital event series for alumni and friends hosted by the Northern Michigan University Alumni Association. Taking place on the second Wednesday of each month, the series provides a behind-the-scenes look at NMU students, departments, athletics, and more on campus with exclusive tours, interviews, and interactive events. Join us on Wednesday, May 26 at 7 p.m. Eastern as we welcome alumni and local historians Barry James ‘92 and Troy Henderson ‘99. The pair will take the audience through time with a look at U.P. history, highlighting the Fayette Historic State Park on the Big Bay de Noc, the Michigan Iron Industry Museum in Negaunee, and the Fort Wilkins Historic State Park in Copper Harbor.

Early history of the U.P. and how people came here will be discussed during the presentation, followed by a live Q&A session facilitated by Susy Ziegler, NMU professor and department head of Earth, Environmental and Geographical Sciences and associate dean of the College of Arts & Sciences.

Alumni from the following schools and departments are invited to join: Clinical Sciences; Criminal Justice; Education, Leadership and Public Service; Engineering Technology; Health and Human Performance; Native American Studies; Nursing; and Social Work.

Join Dean Steve VandenAvond and faculty members from the College of Technology and Occupational Sciences on Wednesday, April 28 at 6:30 p.m. Eastern for a virtual social for NMU College of Technology and Occupational Sciences graduates. Alumni from the following programs are invited to join: Automotive Services; Construction Management; Cosmetology; Electrical Line Technician; Heating, Air-Conditioning, Ventilation and Refrigeration; Hospitality Management; Indoor Agriculture; Industrial Maintenance; and Welding.

Dr. VandenAvond will begin with opening remarks about the new vision for the College, followed by updates from Evan Lucas ‘11 on Construction Management, Kim Smith Kolasa ’95, ‘19 on Indoor Agriculture, and Loganne Glendening, CHE ’14, ‘16 on Hospitality Management. Department Head Dr. John Centko '94, '97 will cover additional programs within the College. Join alumnus and Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) Allie Bowles ’07 on Saturday, March 20 at 10 a.m. Eastern for Beginner Vinyasa! Start your Saturday morning with intention, mindfully linking the movement of the body to the movement of the breath, as we flow through a beginning practice with a touch of core work. We will go over popular poses and stress proper alignment. This class is a dynamic, flowing practice, guiding you through a balanced series of postures to strengthen and build flexibility, ending with relaxation, you will leave ready to take on your day.

Allie is RYT -200 with Yoga Alliance, a certified barre instructor, and has been teaching group fitness since 2015.
