The following terms are found throughout the fee listings. The definitions for these terms were approved by the Northern Michigan University Board of Control.
Tuition: Tuition is defined as the mandatory charge to attend class and receive an entry (credit or audit) on a transcript. Tuition will be approved by the Board of Control.
Fee: A fee is defined as a mandatory charge for a student to attend a class or classes. Fees will be approved by the Board of Control.
Housing Charges: Housing charges include room and board and apartment rental rates and all other mandatory charges necessary for students to live in University-owned and operated housing. Housing charges will be approved by the Board of Control.
Service Charges: All other charges, which are not tuition, fees, or housing charges, will be considered service charges. Food service and bookstore product lines are also excluded. Service charges will be approved by the President or the President's designee.
