Abigail Kauffman Wyche
Professor
Abigail Kauffman Wyche is a Professor in the Department of Social Work. A three-time alumna of Virginia Commonwealth University, she transitioned from a decade of social work practice to a leadership career focused on social justice and holistic wellbeing in higher education. During her tenure at NMU, Dr. Wyche served as SW Department Head for nine years—leading the Department's development of the university's first Master of Social Work program—and most recently as Assistant Vice President for WellBeing, where she led the adoption of the Okanagan Charter by NMU. After years in senior administration, she has returned to the faculty to re-engage in teaching and scholarship. She aims to prepare students to become ethical professionals and leaders with a strong sense of self and passion for making social change. Outside of academia, she is the proud mother of two daughters—one attending her alma mater, VCU, and the other a student at Marquette Senior High School. Dr. Wyche is an outdoor enthusiast who enjoys trail running, hiking, cross-country skiing, and traveling.
