Ashley Provost

Assistant Field Director and Assistant Professor

Ashley Provost is a licensed clinical social worker in the state of Michigan and an Infant Mental Health Specialist endorsed by the Michigan Association for Infant Mental Health. She earned her Bachelor of Social Work from Northern Michigan University, Master of Social Work from Loyola University Chicago, and her PhD from the Institute for Clinical Social Work in Chicago. Her doctoral research explored the birthing experiences of Native American women, with a focus on the intersectionality of colonization and reproductive care.

Dr. Provost brings over a decade of clinical experience in community-based mental health. She is trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and psychodynamic therapy, and is certified in Parent Management Training Oregon (PMTO). Her work is grounded in trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and relational approaches to care.

Her research interests are deeply informed by her clinical practice and include perinatal mental health, intergenerational trauma, culturally responsive care, and health equity. She is especially interested in exploring how systems of care can better support healing for historically marginalized communities.

In addition to her academic and clinical roles, Dr. Provost is actively involved in her community. She serves on the executive board of Pathways, a community mental health organization, and South Shore Place, a community-based service dedicated to supporting and empowering people living with mental illness.

Beyond her work, Ashley treasures time with her husband and their two children, who continually inspire her with their curiosity, humor, and sense of wonder. Together—with their loyal dog Ziggy—they enjoy outdoor adventures, family hikes, and finding joy in everyday moments.
