ASSIST is a grant-funded TRIO Student Support Services program at Northern Michigan University that aims to increase retention and graduation rates for eligible students. In order to participate in ASSIST, students must be a United States Citizen, enrolled at NMU, in Good Academic Standing, and be either First-Generation (neither parent/guardian has earned a bachelor's degree), and/or be considered Low-Income according to federal guidelines (once your application is submitted, we will request a signed verification form via email) and/or have a documented Disability (on file with NMU Disability Services).  

You will receive email updates about the processing of your application.

I give the ASSIST Program permission to obtain and release information that will assist in planning and completing my academic program at Northern Michigan University. This release is valid ONLY for Northern Michigan University departments. I understand that I may rescind this release of information at any time.

There are some instances when the NMU Financial Aid Office does not have the necessary information we need to complete your application. In such instances, we will ask you to submit an income-verification form. If you are a dependent student, a parent/guardian's signature will be required. This form will be requested by email. If you need a printed copy, please stop by the office.
