Who is eligible to participate in the ASSIST program?
Program participants must be enrolled at Northern Michigan University, taking on-campus classes, be within Good Academic Standing, have a need for support, and meet at least one of the following criteria:
- Are from a low-income household as determined by Pell or TIP recipient status
- Are a first-generation student, meaning neither parent has earned a bachelor's degree

In order to be accepted into the program, students must have completed at least one semester at NMU, and have at least two semesters remaining before earning a bachelor's degree.
If you are a previous SSS or ASSIST student and have been inactive or away from the program for over a year, then you are no longer qualified.
