Registration and volunteer opportunities are now open for the third annual Mind over Miles 5K run and walk in honor of World Mental Health Day, taking place on Thursday, October 8th. Organized by NMU WellBeing, the event helps highlight NMU’s commitment to the Okanagan Charter by fostering a campus culture that prioritizes health, wellbeing, and belonging. The 5K also aims to encourage open dialogue about mental health, including our collective ability to reduce the stigma around prioritizing mental health and asking for help. Every registration helps support NMU WellBeing Promotions programming, creating opportunities for students to develop life skills, build connections, and help sustain their wellbeing throughout their college experience.

While this is a timed event, both walkers and runners are welcome and encouraged to participate. The course will take participants on a scenic loop through much of NMU’s campus, starting and finishing at the Wildcat statue by Jamrich. T-shirt sales end 11:59 p.m. on Monday, September 14th. Online registration ends at 11:59 p.m. on October 4th, with no same-day registration available. Timing will be conducted by Superior Timing. Post-5K refreshments are sponsored by Embers Credit Union, and top three overall prizes for female, non-binary, and male categories are sponsored by Queen City Running Company. Packet pickup will take place on Wednesday, October 7th from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m in Jamrich 1100 Lobby. More information will be emailed to registrants closer to the 5K date.
