FACULTY-LED AND SERVICE LEARNING ABROAD AT NMU

The International Programs Office provides support for faculty-led and service learning programs abroad. These program types include:

  • Faculty-led programs 
  • Service learning experiences 

The IPO is here to partner with faculty and staff across campus to create enriching educational experience for students enrolled in your program.  The IPO supports programming at each stage of the process, from the initial site assessment and host country contacts, through budgeting, travel-related contracts, student recruitment, and pre-departure orientation. We will also assist you in planning effective strategies for risk management and emergency preparedness.

2023-24 Call for Proposals

The IPO is now accepting Faculty-let and Service Learning proposal submissions for the 2023-24 Academic Year. There will be 2 submission deadlines. You may submit your program by either of the deadlines for approval of programs leaving at any time during the academic year. 

Summer Proposal Deadline 
Due: June 30, 2023
Approval decisions to be made by July 31, 2023
Fall Proposals Deadline
Due: September 15, 2023
Approval decisions to be made by October 15, 2023

Submit completed proposals by email to goabroad@nmu.edu or to the International Programs Office, Cohodas 203. 

NOTE: Approval emails from department heads and deans will be accepted in lieu of physical signatures on the last page of the proposal. Please request that your department head and dean email their program approval to the IPO at goabroad@nmu.edu along with an attached copy of the program they are approving. 

 

FLSA HANDBOOK

Part 1 of the newly revised NMU Faculty-led Handbook has been released and is now available to all faculty and stuff on campus. Part 1 of the handbook includes information and procedures for the following aspects of FLSA programming: 

  • FLSA Program Overview including the responsibilities of faculty, departments, and the IPO
  • Developing a Program and the Approval Process 
  • Financial Matters 
  • Recruiting Students

Part 2 of the handbook is scheduled to be released by the end of the summer. It will include information and procedures for the following aspects of FLSA programming: 

  • Pre-Departure 
  • On-site Program Management 
  • Post-Program Overview
