Individual getting ready to paint.

LIVE@NMU is excited to facilitate the LIVE Art & Word Contest again this year!  The 2025-26 LIVE Art & Word Contest marks the 5th year the contest has taken place and is open to all High School Students and Adults (18+) in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.  In 2020, a High School student who was a member of West End Suicide Prevention, suggested the contest as a way to engage students across Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, encourage positive mental health and break the stigma surrounding mental health issues, as well as showcase the talents of our young people.  The contest has expanded over the years, and in 2024, LIVE@NMU was officially asked to assume facilitation of the contest going forward.

Individuals can enter any form of Visual Art or Written Word into the contest that aligns with the 2025-26 theme: INCLUDE (others) -- which signifies the second letter of the LIVE acronym. To INCLUDE (others) means to understand that we are all different & that is a good thing. Everyone has their own individual talents & by working together we can make our communities a place everyone feels accepted.

There will again be a $500 Grand Prize, along with other cash prizes in all categories.
