Summer Flextime Hours Policy, Procedure
An employee may request and be granted summer flextime hours at the discretion of the appropriate supervisor. Summer flextime hours are to be scheduled within the daily time period of 7:30 a.m. and 5 p.m., and the approved schedule must be on file with the supervisor.
Employees may not work more than nine (9) hours per day, nor less than four (4) hours per day, at their own initiative. No employees will be paid overtime as a result of summer flextime scheduling. UAW Locals 1950 and 2178 have concurred in this change in the payment of overtime. Employees of Local 1950-UAW, who are normally paid overtime and are required to work more than nine (9) hours per day, will be paid overtime for those hours in excess of nine (9) hours per day and/or forty (40) hours per week. Employees of Local 2178-UAW, who are normally paid overtime, will be paid overtime for those hours in excess of forty (40) per week.
Actual hours worked will be recorded on the time sheets for each day. For any day on which less than eight (8) hours is worked, show "FS" (Flexible Schedule) for the remaining hours.
All employees are required to take at least a 30-minute lunch period. A 60-minute lunch period may be taken, but no other options may be utilized.
During the time employees are in the office, it is expected that telephones will be answered.
The individual office supervisors still have the responsibility of scheduling employees in their areas, taking into account the individual employee's preferences under this Procedure, insofar as possible. The supervisors also have the responsibility of monitoring the employees for adherence to the Procedure guidelines.
This Procedure applies to University offices only and is not applicable to employees who are members of AFSCME.
Time off without pay may be approved by the office supervisor for any employee who requests it for one (1) or two (2) days per week providing the office workload permits.
Exceptions to this Procedure must be approved by the appropriate President's Council member in writing, and a copy of the approval submitted to the Director of Human Resources.
