Moving Towards Zero-Waste Data

During move-in this year, our team of Zero Waste volunteers worked to help divert waste from the landfill and recycle as much as possible. The move-in data from 2024 showcased that 6.5 tons of waste were sent to the landfill. During the 2-25 move-in, 8.8 tons were sent to recycling. This means that we recycled MORE than we threw away last year.

These measurements will serve as our baseline as we continue to work on making move-in and move-out as sustainable as possible.

Indigenous Perspectives Symposium on Food 2025

The symposium was held at NMU's Northern Center in Marquette, Michigan.

LED in Weston Hall

$3.3 million on electricity on campus, which contributes to approximately 9,455 metric tonnes of CO2 emissions. We purchase approximately 12,500 MW of electricity each year for campus lighting.

One easy way to reduce our emissions is to reduce our energy consumption. NMU has the goal to convert half of our lighting on campus to LED by 2030 and all of the lighting by 2040.
