Facilities
The Northern Michigan University Facilities Department works to provide for the development, service, and stewardship of the university’s physical assets to sustain a functional, safe, and attractive teaching, learning, and working environment. It encompasses engineering and planning and sustainability efforts on campus as well.
Carbon Neutrality
The NMU Carbon Neutrality Task Force was established in 2021 to actively pursue the goal of Northern becoming carbon neutral by 2050 or sooner. The group is part of the NMU Strategic Plan's "Collaborative Sustainability" initiative.
Recycling
For years, Northern's campus has been committed to instituting a comprehensive recycling program across campus. This includes recycling programs such as single sort, battery recycling and more. To learn more about the universities recycling practices, click here.
Composting
Northern has multiple composting initiatives on campus, including a partnership with Partridge Creek Compost. Students can also drop off their personal compost at the Hoop House (located by the Jacobetti Complex) or work on Compost Crew in the dining hall.
