On Tuesday, October 1st, Northern celebrated the grand opening of the Campus Nursery! Located behind Central Receiving, the Campus Nursery will be home to growing native trees, shrubs, and bushes before being planted in landscaping projects on campus. Students, staff, and administrators attended the celebration and planted a Sugar Maple, of the Fall Fiesta variety (Acer saccharum ‘Balista’) to honor this grand opening. Attendees learned about plans to grow future native species in mesh grow bags, where their roots will mature to the size needed for landscaping, and also discussed some potential species to be planted. The nursery is a culmination of previous Green Fund proposals to incorporate more native species on campus.
