Looking back at this summer, one of the fun experiences SHINE was able to take part in was taking a tour of Recycle 906's facilities at the end of August. From paper and glass, to a multitude of different types of plastics, Recycle 906 handles it.

Throughout our tour, we gained a better understanding of Recycle 906's process. No waste is left untouched due to its circular system. If a piece is missed in the sorting process, it loops back around on the conveyor belt until it is properly categorized. After sorting through the waste, items are shipped off to varying businesses where the recycled items are repurposed into other goods.

This year, SHINE has partnered with Recycle 906 in hiring two recycling education and outreach interns. We are excited about what the future may bring with Recycle 906's efforts toward reducing waste in our U.P. landfills. Learn more about Recycle 906 here.
