What Can Be Recycled on Campus? - Sustainability Hub for Innovation & Environment

Marquette’s recycling facility is truly impressive! At Recycle906, they accept a wider range of materials than many other facilities, including Starbucks hot and cold cups—something most places can’t process due to the plastic lining that prevents leaks. But Recycle906 makes it work! Just ensure the cups and lids are empty (no liquids) and free of food or drink residue, and you’re good to go.

We also recycle paper towels used on campus, as long as they’re only for drying and contain no other contaminants; they can go straight into the recycling bin. Once there, they dry and get recycled just like other paper products at Recycle906.

What can’t go in the single-stream recycling bins? Glass and plastic bags. However, both have dedicated drop-off locations around Marquette and on campus. Glass bottles and containers can be dropped off at the SHINE office or directly at Recycle906. Plastic bags can be returned to the SHINE office or major retailers like Meijer, Target, or Walmart.
