This is a series of history-related problems which can be used by teachers of Michigan history. All of the necessary documentation  along with pertinent questions are available on these pages. The first problem relates to the use of colonial French maps dealing with Lake Superior. Next there are a number of accounts focusing on the land and the people. Labor which has been ignored in the past in many studies, is presented here in a series of questions. The data from Federal censuses is useful to show students the ethnic origins of people living in the Upper Peninsula. The last set deals with the Italian immigrant, Philip Marchetti and can be used in a biographical study that students could write as a report. Although questions have been included, the individual teacher can  create her/his own set of questions or projects related to this material. To download the document as a PDF, click here.
