The Upper Peninsula of Michigan has a rich and diverse history of industry, people and culture.  This section of the Center for U.P. Studies Web site explores some of the geographical changes and traditions of the area, from how water issues impacted settlements to the current state of tourism.

We also look at the unique aspects past, present and future living in the U.P.  Anyone who has ever visited the peninsula realizes that there are strong regional  characteristics of the people here and fascinating folklore.

The Upper Peninsula Bibliography, Portals to the Past, is now available for viewing.  The bibliography is the result of years of compiling by the Director of the Center for Upper Peninsula Studies, Russell M. Magnaghi. The bibliography is topical, and is designed to guide researchers interested in pursuing subjects related to the rich history of the Upper Peninsula.
