Stephen E. Young

Chair

Stephen E. Young is a former owner and officer in the lobby firm of Governmental Consultant Services Inc. (GCSI), located in Lansing, Michigan.  The top-rated lobby firm is one of the biggest in the State and represents over 120 different clients.  During his career, he was voted the most effective lobbyist in Lansing for over 15 years running.  He also served as Manager of Tax and Regulatory Affairs for the Michigan Chamber of Commerce.  He was a political science major and Payne Hall resident at NMU in the mid-seventies.  He left NMU to work at the State Capitol as Chief of Staff to a Saginaw area State Senator.  He completed his bachelor's degree in political science and economics from Michigan State University.

Mr. Young was appointed to the Northern Michigan University Board of Trustees by Governor Rick Snyder for a term beginning January 1, 2019 and continuing until December 31, 2026.  He served as Chair of the Board in 2022, 2023, and is continuing as Chair for 2024.  Steve lives in Lansing with his wife Tricia, and has two daughters, Jennifer and Stephanie.
