Center for Native American Studies

The Center for Native American Studies was established at NMU in 1971.  It has oversight of the University’s six academic programs in the field of Native American Studies.  It also provides a plethora of programming, services, and support for Native American students attending NMU.

Disability Services

The Disability Services Office provides assistance for students who qualify under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) to receive accommodations.

First-Generation Services

First-Generation Services in NMU’s Dean of Students Office supports students whose parents or legal guardians did not complete a bachelor’s degree. On average, about 35% of NMU students are first-generation college students.

International Programs

The International Programs Office is dedicated to engaging the NMU community in a wide range of international experiences.  It assists international students who choose to study at Northern and helps facilitate domestic students who wish to explore the world outside of the United States.

McNair Scholars

The Ronald E. McNair Post-Baccalaureate Achievement Program is designed to increase graduation rates and post-baccalaureate success among first-generation students with financial needs and students who come from a minority population that is underrepresented in graduate education.

Veteran Services

Northern has dedicated trained staff to assist veterans in processing their veteran’s administration educational benefits, including a trained Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency coordinator for student veteran services.
