Northern Michigan University will hold its winter semester University Forum from noon - 1 p.m. Monday, April 14, in the ballrooms of the Northern Center.  A pizza buffet and beverages will be available, or attendees are welcome to bring their own brown bag lunch. President Brock Tessman will lead the discussion. 

The primary featured topic will be changes being made related to the recent White House executive order on diversity/equity/inclusion (DEI).

Other topics include: 
Budget and state funding update
Enrollment 2025-26 outlook
Block scheduling and other big ideas

All NMU students, faculty and staff are encouraged to attend. The event is also open to the public.  

A video link of the forum will be sent campus-wide on Tuesday, April 15, for those who cannot attend the event in person.

NMU students, staff, and faculty are invited to the NMU WellBeing Fair on Tuesday, March 18, from 10 AM to 2 PM in Northern Center Ballrooms 3 & 4. The first 150 attendees to check in will receive a "Be Well in Winter" canvas tote bag!

New this year, WellBeing Promotions is introducing a WellBeing Passport. By visiting a station for each of the eight dimensions of wellbeing and submitting a completed passport at the Welcome/WellBeing table, participants will be entered to win exciting prizes sponsored by participating organizations and departments.

Stop by to enjoy interactive activities, screenings, and conversations with 30+ community agencies, NMU departments, and student organizations!

Poetry without Borders at the UNITED Conference

Sonderegger Symposium 24: 125 Years of Northern

For the 24th year in a row, Northern Michigan University will present its annual Sonderegger Symposium on campus. Sponsored by a donation from the Sonderegger family, the Beaumier U.P. Heritage Center, and the Center for U.P. Studies, the symposium will take place on Friday, November 8, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sessions will be held in the Northern Center ballrooms, and lunch will be provided. Admission is free and open to the public; no registration is necessary.

This year, Northern Michigan University celebrates its 125th anniversary, and so the theme for the Sonderegger Symposium will touch on various aspects of Northern’s past. The keynote speaker will be 1956 Northern graduate, L. Sandy MacLean, who received the Distinguished Alumni Award from Northern in 1986. A noted administrator and educator, he has been a highly respected member of the academic communities in Ypsilanti, Michigan, and St. Louis, Missouri. His contributions to his profession include frequent contributions to professional journals, presentations at national and regional conferences, and the develop­ment of innovative programs and techniques to assist universities and the students they serve. Since his graduation from Northern in 1956, he has made numerous contributions to the educational system of our country. This includes service to collegians as Director of Men's Residence Halls at the Universi­ty of Northern Iowa; Head Counselor, at Indiana University; Assistant Dean of Students, at the University of Missouri-Columbia; Dean of Students, and Associate Vice President for Student Affairs at Eastern Michigan University; Dean of Students, University of Missouri-St. Louis; and, Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, University of Missouri-St. Louis.
