Sports science is an “umbrella” term that covers several specific academic disciplines. These disciplines may be categorized into two main areas:
- Clinical Aspects - medicine, physical therapy, cardiac rehabilitation, and health/wellness programs.
- Science Aspects - biomechanics, exercise physiology, nutrition, and sports psychology.
The undergraduate program leading to a Bachelor of Science in Sports Science is designed as a graduate school preparation program since most related career areas will require an advanced degree.
This is a four-year baccalaureate program with students graduating from the College of Health Sciences and Professional Studies. Requirements the Sports Science major include 51 credits of specific courses in the major plus a 22 credits cluster minor. Courses in the cluster minor are selected in consultation with an academic advisor.
