Global Campus tuition does not include the cost of a laptop. However, Global Campus students will be eligible to rent a laptop computer from NMU at a rate of $385 per semester plus a $25 shipping fee. Construction Management students should see below for special instructions.

Before laptop distribution can occur, tuition and fees must be paid or a payment plan selected.

The rental fee will be charged to the student’s NMU account when the notebook computer is issued. The rental fee will be charged each semester that the student is registered for classes and has a leased computer issued. The rental fee will not be charged over the summer as long as the student is registered for credit earning classes in the following fall semester.

The notebook computer must be returned in compliance with the computer exchange schedule or if the student is not registered for classes in the following semester. The return deadline date will be emailed to students via their NMU email. Failure to return the notebook computer by the established deadline date will result in a $15.00 per day fee until the computer is returned. NMU may seek civil or criminal prosecution if the computer is not returned on time.

Online Construction Management students are required to rent a laptop according to the above policy for many of their courses. Students in this program will be issued a special laptop with the Construction Image applied. This image is a package of software that will be used throughout the Construction Management program. Revit, Navisworks, Bluebeam and SketchUp are just a few of the many programs preinstalled.

The programs included on the Construction Image can only be loaded onto university owned computers due to licensing restrictions put into place by software companies.

  • CN 251 Construction Field Operations
  • CN 272 Introduction to Construction Design
  • CN 283 Construction Estimating
  • CN 369 Construction Economics and Standard Practices
  • CN 372 Advanced Design and Conventions
  • CN 450 Project Control

Please check your NMU email for more details before the start of a course requiring a rental laptop. If you are not sure if a rental laptop will be needed for a course please contact your professor.
