Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

The FAFSA is available beginning October 1st each year and can be completed online. You must reapply each year.

For maximum aid consideration and to help ensure your aid is in place by the time tuition is due, please file your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) annually by March 1.

NMU's Federal School Code:  002301

Link your tax return information using the Data Retrieval Tool found in the “Income Information” sections of the FAFSA.

We strongly recommend you create an FSA ID, a username and password combination that allows you to sign your FAFSA® form electronically. Your FSA ID also can be used to access the myStudentAid app and access certain information online. While you can get your FSA ID as you’re completing the FAFSA form online, getting it ahead of time and using it to begin your FAFSA form on or on the myStudentAid mobile app cuts down on errors and delays. Find out how to get an FSA ID and what to do if you forgot your FSA ID.

Financial Aid Offers

All new eligible students will begin receiving financial aid offers in the mail as early as mid-December. Additional information on the financial aid notification process for new and continuing students is available.

Know Your Next Steps

If you are a continuing student or a student who has attended orientation and are enrolled in classes, learn where your financial aid offer is in the granting and notification process by checking your student financial aid online.

Maintain Financial Aid Eligibility

Federal law requires all students who receive financial aid to make Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) toward their degree. Students at NMU must meet all of the SAP requirements.
