Welcome to Orientation!
Orientation is your first step to becoming a Wildcat! When you sign up for orientation, we know that you are committed to NMU, and we get to work making sure we’re ready for you. You’ll talk to housing, academic advisors specific to your major, and attend “Choose Your Own Adventure” workshops to explore campus. With three days of events and activities to make sure you are ready for your transition to college life, you’ll know everything you need to be successful at Northern Michigan University.
Students and guests are welcome to stay on campus during the three day June and July sessions. Accommodation rates.
Good News! You can reserve your orientation session now and choose to pay later. You'll have until May 8, 2026 to submit your orientation fees. (Don't worry-we'll send reminders!)
You’ll have your full orientation schedule in April, but here’s a quick idea of what you can expect:
Day One
Welcome to NMU! Check in, tour campus, meet your academic advisor and hang out with future Wildcats. Save some energy for the end of the day, where we play yard games and eat ice cream!

Day Two
Day two is when we get into the details of your time at NMU. Chat with Housing, learn more about your academic program, take a residence hall tour, hike along Lake Superior, drop into your academic department to say hi, learn how you can get involved on campus with Center for Student Enrichment and end the night with Pizza and games with the NMU Police Department.

Day Three
We don't waste any time- and our last day is filled with important information for you! Learn about resources available to you through departmental workshops and "Choose Your Own Adventure" with hands-on activities that have you exploring campus. Students and guests check out by noon...but that's just the start of your Northern adventure. We'll see you in August!
