SHINE is excited to share a report highlighting the progress made toward meeting Northern Michigan University's sustainability goals as outlined in Our Compass and as guided by our core values of community, opportunity, rigor, environment, inclusion, connections, innovation, and wellbeing.

Welcome Anna Solberg, MI Healthy Climate Corps - Climate Action Coordinator!

We are happy to welcome Anna Solberg as the MI Healthy Climate Corps’ Climate Action Coordinator at Northern Michigan University! Anna moved back to Marquette from Pennsylvania, where she worked in community engagement for the Conservation Voters of Pennsylvania and PennFuture. Anna is an NMU alumni who graduated in 2015 with a Bachelor’s in Environmental Studies and Sustainability with a minor in Art and Design.

NMU ATHLETICS’ ROLE IN MEETING CARBON NEUTRALITY GOALS

Beyond the building renovations mentioned above, NMU Athletics has been working to improve efficiencies and reduce its footprint in other areas of operations. For example, the volleyball team has been leading the way regarding sustainability practices within athletic teams. Their efforts were highlighted in a video titled “Serving as an Example: Small Sustainability Steps to Make a Big Difference,” created by Makaylee Kuhn and Dr. Mark Shevy and showcased at the Fresh Coast Film Festival earlier this fall.
