The participants live on Northern Michigan University's campus. They live in one of the residence halls on campus. Each student is roomed with another student from the program. The females and males live on opposite sides of the hall, and there are counselors that live with them during the program.

Students are not allowed to leave the program except for family emergencies.

If there is an emergency, contact the resident director. You will be given the phone number in the packet you receive after being admitted to the program.

The program provides transportation to the program at the beginning of the program and transportation home at the end of the program. Located in the packet you receive after being admitted to the program, will be a drop off location near your home and time when students will be picked up by UBMS Staff.

An optional, extended group trip, comprised of educational, cultural enrichment and recreational activities, is scheduled during the last week of the UBMS program.  Participants are not required to attend the Big Trip.

This year, the Big Trip will again transport students to an exciting destination where activities may include visiting art, science, and cultural museums, college campuses, and a national parks. In addition, students will have the opportunity to relax, sightseeing in the city, and shop for souvenirs. The Big Trip includes air transportation, hotel accommodations, meals, ground transportation, and all park, zoo, and museum entrance tickets. More detailed information, including the destination, will be announced once students are admitted into the summer program.
