Frequently Asked Questions

Banner is a vendor purchased ERP suite that manages the administrative software needs of the university.  This suite covers functions such as: registration, billing, financial aid, human resources, finance, admissions, etc.

Authentication is achieved by using your nmu issued user ID and password. Two factor authentication is also required for any administrative user of the system.  For documentation about 2 factor please see: https://www.nmu.edu/2fa

Access Banner by going to banner.nmu.edu from within a browser. Google Chrome is the recommended browser.

Verify that you’re using your NMU User ID and password.  If that doesn’t correct the issue clear your browser’s cache (see how to document below). After clearing your cache you may need to log out using the arrow button on the left-hand menu.

Note:  You should use Chrome to access Banner.

Yes. You can have multiple sessions open at the same time. If you desire to be logged into multiple accounts, please use incognito mode or another chrome based browser (Edge or Brave)

You can use a screen capture tool such as the windows snipping tool to capture and paste your content.  Also, to reduce fuzzy, gray figures:

  • Don't use the Banner print function.  
  • Use the Chrome print function instead.  
  • Go to the advanced settings and select the Headers and Footers checkbox - uncheck the others.
  • Set the scale to 70.  

Your Banner 9 session will expire after 60 minutes of inactivity. If it expires, close the open tabs and re-launch the browser before logging back in.
