NMU is writing a report for our institutional accreditors, the Higher Learning Commission (HLC). What must we make sure to include?

This activity gives you the opportunity to share your ideas.

NMU President’s Forum - October 2025

HLC Accreditation Campus Engagement Workshop

Self-Guided Activity Instructions

Welcome to the President’s Forum!

  • Walk through the poster display area.
  • Posters have with Higher Learning Commission (HLC) language.

Find a station to focus on:

  1. Read the HLC language and note the sample items the accreditation team has started penciling in.
  2. Add your ideas: “To convince peers from other universities that NMU meets this standard, NMU should write about ____.”
    1. How should we demonstrate our excellence?
    2. What work do you do or do you know of that illustrates our compliance?
  3. Upvote others’ notes as you wish with a checkmark or a star.
  4. Visit other stations until we wrap at 5:00.

Think: “If the peer reviewers visiting NMU next year haven’t heard of ____, I will be disappointed!”

Add to the board whatever you just mentally put in that blank – we need your suggestions.

How will we know we’re writing about the “right” stuff? Now is your chance to tell us!

Need a little more help getting started?

Here is a list of examples of the kinds of evidence institutions provide for each Core Component. Remember, these are just illustrating examples – what else could and should we talk about?
