Position Overview
Northern Michigan University is seeking motivated, creative, and community-minded students to serve as Digital Brand Ambassadors. Ambassadors represent NMU across social and digital platforms by creating authentic, engaging content that highlights student life, academics, campus culture, and the unique experiences that define the Wildcat community.
This opportunity is ideal for students interested in marketing, communications, media, storytelling, photography/video, public relations, or social media strategy—as well as anyone who enjoys sharing their NMU experience in thoughtful, creative ways. We are intentionally seeking ambassadors from a wide range of majors, identities, and campus communities. Even if your academic program isn’t directly related to content creation or social media, we strongly encourage you to apply.
Digital Brand Ambassadors collaborate closely with NMU’s Marketing & Communications team to support recruitment efforts, campus initiatives, and university storytelling. In return, ambassadors gain professional development, exclusive behind-the-scenes experiences, and recognition as official representatives of Northern Michigan University.
Key Responsibilities
- Create original, platform-appropriate digital content (short-form video, photos, stories, captions, blogs, etc.) for NMU on personal branded TikTok and Instagram accounts.
- This content will align with guidelines proposed by NMU Marketing and Communications and will be regularly reviewed

- Participate in campaigns that support recruitment, campus initiatives, academic programs, events, and student life.
- Attend special, organized ambassador events, photo/video shoots, and training sessions.
- Follow brand, accessibility, and ethical communication guidelines.
- Track basic performance metrics and reflect on content effectiveness.
Desired Qualifications
- Currently enrolled NMU student in good academic standing.
- Active, responsible presence on at least one major social platform (e.g., Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Snapchat).
- Interest in digital storytelling, content creation, and social media.
- Comfortable appearing on camera and/or capturing campus life.
- Basic skills in photography, video, or editing tools (e.g., CapCut, Adobe, Canva, InShot) are preferred but not required.
- Strong communication skills, professionalism, and reliability.
- Ability to work independently while meeting deadlines.

Time Commitment
- This should be approximately 10 hours per week, max, during the academic year.
- Schedule is flexible, as ambassadors do this work on their own time
- Some evening/weekend availability for events or trainings (optional but encouraged)
