NMU is in Princeton’s Review Guide to Green Colleges

The Princeton Review Guide to Green Colleges- 2026 Edition was created based on a 25-question survey that gathered information about each institution's sustainability-related policies, practices, and programs. Students were also surveyed about their experience at the school, including administrator and student support for environmental awareness and conservation efforts on the campus.

Bat Houses On Campus - Green Fund

Bats are an important part of a functioning ecosystem, and with natural habitats in decline, they need our help now more than ever. NMU has decided to welcome bats throughout campus by providing bat houses. Bat houses work by providing a safe, warm, and protected roosting site for bats, mimicking natural habitats like tree hollows. They are designed with specific features like rough interior surfaces for grip and a well-ventilated, appropriately-sized space that traps heat from the sun. With the right conditions, a bat house can provide a stable environment for raising young.

Moving Towards Zero-Waste Data

During move-in this year, our team of Zero Waste volunteers worked to help divert waste from the landfill and recycle as much as possible. The move-in data from 2024 showcased that 6.5 tons of waste were sent to the landfill. During the 2-25 move-in, 8.8 tons were sent to recycling. This means that we recycled MORE than we threw away last year.

These measurements will serve as our baseline as we continue to work on making move-in and move-out as sustainable as possible.
