Drag Queen Bios
Joey Black (Director & Host)- Joey Black is a celebrated drag performer and show director with deep roots in both Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Marquette, Michigan. With over 40 years in the drag scene, she began her journey in Milwaukee and then organizing college-sponsored drag shows at Northern Michigan University (NMU) and Michigan Tech, significantly contributing to the growth of LGBTQ+ visibility in the Upper Peninsula. Joey was Miss Gay Wisconsin USofA Classic 2024 and has represented her state at national competitions in Dallas. Her performances are known for their vintage flair, often featuring classic jazz and old-school numbers that resonate with diverse audiences. Beyond the stage, Joey is committed to community engagement, having hosted numerous fundraisers supporting women’s centers, hospices, and cancer research. Now based in Milwaukee, she continues to perform selectively, focusing on events that celebrate inclusivity and joy. Joey Black is not only a performer but also a mentor and advocate, using her platform to foster acceptance and unity within and beyond the drag community.
Mercedes Benzova- Mercedes Benzova is the high-octane diva with a luxury finish and zero tolerance for low energy. Born to slay and built for the spotlight, Mercedes blends old-Hollywood glamour with turbo-charged sass. Known for her commanding stage presence, razor-sharp wit, and a wardrobe that turns every sidewalk into a runway, she’s not just a performer — she’s a full-service experience. Whether she’s belting ballads, spinning comedy, or styling the latest wig, Mercedes always delivers with elegance, attitude, and fun. Catch her wherever the lights are bright and the crowd is ready to ride — because with Mercedes Benzova, it’s always a first-class show.
Shelby Cummins Is a local Queen of Marquette. She got her start at the 2018 Up Rainbow Pride amateur show where she took the crown and became Miss Rainbow Pride 2018. She has since performed in Madison, Milwaukee and Green Bay, as well as Sault Ste Marie. She is the current Miss Gay Emerald City WI USofA 2024! Shelby LOVES Marquette and all the support and love she has received while performing here. She would like to thank you so much for the continued love and support and hopes you enjoy this show! It’s definitely the drag event of the year.
Loretta LoveLee- Loretta Love Lee is a multifaceted and celebrated drag performer based in Wisconsin, renowned for her exceptional artistry and contributions to the drag community. In January 2025, she was honored as the “Best Drag Queen” at the Wisconsin Drag Awards, a testament to her outstanding impact and excellence in the local drag scene.
Taysha Montenegro- Taysha Montenegro is a Hispanic Queen with over 13 years of experience in Show business and female impersonation art. She started back in 2012 paving her way in pageantry winning over 14 titles through her career. Taysha is known for her Latina performances, her dancing skills and also her talent to evoke emotion in her performances. She is also known as the very first Miss Club Forever and newly crowned as Miss Gay Capital City USofA 2025.
Venezia- Venezia is a proud Latina Drag Queen. At just 26 years old, she's made a name for herself in the drag world, reigning as Miss LaCage Nightclub 2022, Miss Gay Latina Madison 2024, and the newly crowned Miss Exquisite Wisconsin 2025. With 5 years of experience under her belt, Venezia brings high energy, talent, and beauty to every show. Get ready for her fierce performance and unforgettable presence!"
Production Team Bios
Brayden Smith (Lighting Designer)- Brayden is a sophomore at Northern Michigan University pursuing a degree in Theater Technology and Design with concentration in Audio and Lighting design. Brayden has many collegiate and professional credits, includin Northern Michigan University's Ghost Soldiers (Lighting Designer), Northern Michigan University's Monty Pythons Spamalot (Head Electrician), North Coast Theatre and Dance Festival (Head Electrician), National Cherry Festival 2023-2024 (Audio Technician), LD|(Production Assistant), Northern Michigan University's Frankenstein (Sound Designer), SAYT's Finding Nemo (Sound Designer), Northern Michigan Universitys Alice in Wonderland (Lighting Designer), Northern Michigan Universities Jesus Christ Superstar (Associate Media Designer, Media Intergrator, Lighting Busker), and many more. With his degree, Brayden hopes to pursue a career in theatrical and concert lighting and audio design. This production is another step towards that goal.
Molly Sobiechowski (Production Stage Manager)- Molly Sobiechowski is a rising junior at NMU currently working towards her BFA in Theatre Technology and Design. Recently she served as the production stage manager for NMU’s production of “Much Ado About Nothing" and an assistant lighting designer for "Frankenstein." Molly's professional credits include being the assistant lighting designer of "Men on Boats" and "The Play That Goes Wrong" at the Croswell Opera House in Adrian, Michigan. She would like to thank all of her family, friends, and mentors for all of their support.
Rachel Wells (Technical Director)- Rachel Wells (She/Her) is thrilled to join the NMU team as the Technical Director and Shop Supervisor. Originally from Ann Arbor, MI, she is excited to return to her home state. Rachel recently received her MFA in Theatre Technology from Indiana University where she served as the Technical Director for Indiana University Summer Theatre, IU’s professional summer stock, for the past three seasons. There she managed repertory productions with a small but skilled team of early career professionals. Rachel is an active member of the United States Institute for Theatre Technology (USITT) and loves helping young artists to grow their skills and confidence in the world of theatre.
