Alex Lasher

Assistant Director of Admissions, Northern-Lower Peninsula Office - First Year and Transfer Students

Hometown:

Parchment, MI

Personal/Professional Biography:

I started out at Kalamazoo Valley Community college and then transferred to NMU. I graduated from NMU in 2019 with a Bachelor's degree majoring in Communications. During my time at NMU I worked both in the admissions office as a tour guide and on Orientation Staff. After graduation, I worked in the University of Michigan’s admissions office for 3 years before returning back to NMU.

Favorite Marquette Activity:

Hammocking on Lake Superior or a bonfire on 8 mile beach. As long as I am by Lake Superior, I am happy.

Most Memorable College Experience:

I got to broadcast home NMU football games for a class. My dream growing up was to be a college football announcer so getting to do play by play for Northern games was literally a dream come true.

Best advice you received regarding college or would give someone else entering college:

When I was in college, I would often compare what I was doing and where I was at in my college journey with other people I knew. I got a lot more enjoyment out of college when I stopped trying to do what I thought was the “standard” thing for college students to do and started appreciating my own journey and doing things that I enjoyed. Appreciate how far you have come and the people who helped you get there!
