Jacqueline Bauer

Admissions Counselor - Central U.S. First Year and Transfer Students

Miami, Florida

Professional/Personal Biography:

I graduated from University of Florida with a B.A. in Political Science and International Relations and also earned my Master’s Degree in Public Relations. My career began in the area of political communications in Tallahassee, Florida and Washington, D.C. An opportunity to become a university regional recruiter had me switching fields and falling in love with higher education. I have 12 years of experience in admissions and alumni engagement and was so excited to join the Northern Michigan University team in 2024! I am currently based from my home in Florida but spend most of my time traveling around the Central USA meeting with prospective NMU Wildcats. During my free time, I enjoy teaching fitness classes, swimming, exploring different cities, and getting together with family and friends.

Most Memorable College Experience:

During my college years I studied aboard in Paris, France and was able to fine-tune my French skills while meeting so many new international friends. Another memorable experience was my internship at CNN, where I helped with public relations and booking guests for some of their news shows.

Favorite Marquette Activity:

Snow! Being someone who has lived most of my life in the South—I really enjoy spending time on a frosty campus (which is very beautiful after a fresh snowfall). Marquette offers so many fun outdoor experiences during every season of the year, from winter sports to summertime lake activities to fall leaf viewing. There is really something for everyone in our college town.

Best advice you received regarding college or would give someone else entering college:

Take advantage of your undergrad years! It will likely be one of the best time frames of your life where you will meet new people and try new things. It goes by quickly but you will have amazing memories, skills, and friendships to last a life time.
