About the Student Achievement Awards

The Board of Trustees Student Achievement Awards recognize Northern Michigan University students for outstanding achievements in a broad range of activities, leadership, service, and accomplishments outside the classroom.

Selected recipients will be invited to attend the Student Leadership Banquet, where they will be recognized and presented with a plaque. Selected recipients will also be invited to attend a luncheon with the Board of Trustees.

Nominate a student

Outstanding Graduating Senior Award

Two students will be selected from seniors graduating during the current winter semester or the previous fall semester.
 

Outstanding Student of Any Class Standing

Recognizes a student of any class standing who has made significant contributions to the Northern Michigan University community.
 

Outstanding Nontraditional Student Achievement Award

Honors an undergraduate student who is over the age of 25, married, a single parent, working full time, or who served in the military prior to beginning their college studies.
 

Outstanding Graduate Student Award

Recognizes a student currently enrolled in a graduate program or who graduated from a graduate program within one calendar year of the award submission.
 

Outstanding Global Campus Student Award

Honors a student enrolled in a distance-learning program who has demonstrated exceptional commitment to the Global Campus student experience.
 

Students may be nominated in more than one award category.

Outstanding Graduating Senior, Outstanding Student (Any Class Standing), and Outstanding Nontraditional Student Achievement Awards

Recipients will have made significant contributions to the quality of life at NMU through involvement in extracurricular activities, academic or social initiatives, or employment within a university department. Nominees should have enhanced the student experience on campus or contributed positively to the broader community beyond the university.
 

Outstanding Graduate Student Award

Recipients will have demonstrated academic excellence and made meaningful contributions to the NMU community, their academic discipline, or their local community through exemplary leadership, scholarship, and/or collaboration.
 

Outstanding Global Campus Student Award

Recipients will have demonstrated a significant commitment to their education through NMU Global Campus. This commitment may include overcoming obstacles while pursuing their education and achieving academic excellence, maintaining focus on educational goals, and advancing career ambitions through their Global Campus studies.
 

Minimum GPA Requirements

  • Undergraduate students: 2.5 cumulative GPA
  • Graduate students: 3.0 cumulative GPA
     

Who May Nominate?

Any NMU student, faculty member, or staff member may submit a nomination.
 

Selection Process

Students who are nominated will be invited to submit additional information. A selection committee composed of faculty, administrative staff, and students will review all submissions and select the recipients for each award category.
 

Recognition

Each Student Achievement Award recipient will be recognized at the annual Leadership Recognition Program.
