NEW! Introducing the Workplace Intercultural Competency Program
The Workplace Intercultural Competency program provides students with a foundation in language study, culture, intercultural communication and management skills so they can succeed in the management of diverse workplaces.
Courses for the Workplace Intercultural Competency Certificate and Minor can be taken in-person or online through NMU's Global Campus.
The Workplace Intercultural Competency Certificate
The Workplace Intercultural Competency Certificate is a distinctive program targeted at professionals who wish to expand their intercultural competency in the workplace but who did not take extensive post-secondary language and culture courses. This Certificate is an important educational component for students looking to upskill their professional training. It is specifically designed so that students gain a foundation in understanding intercultural differences and how to communicate and adjust management styles to account for cultural distinctions. Professionals who acquire the Workplace Intercultural Competency Certificate will gain a broader global perspective, second-language proficiency (basic, intermediate, or advanced, depending on course sequence), increased awareness of cultural diversity, and intercultural competence.
The Workplace Intercultural Competency Minor
The Workplace Intercultural Competency Minor is a distinctive program targeted at undergraduate students who wish to expand their intercultural competency but who cannot add extensive language and culture courses to their schedules. The Workplace Intercultural Competency Minor is designed for undergraduate students who want the skills to be able to thrive in diverse work environments. Students who acquire this minor will gain broader global perspective, second-language proficiency (basic, intermediate, or advanced, depending on course sequence), increased awareness of cultural diversity, and intercultural competence. Importantly, the combination of language, intercultural communication, and management skills will support students' professional aspirations through upskilling.
