Student Organizations
Students have the opportunity to join student organizations that can help them improve their conversational skills by giving them a forum to practice the languages they're learning in the classroom. The organizations also provide students with the chance to learn more about other cultures through various activities and the exchange of ideas.
Explore below to learn more about the student organizations supported by the Department of Languages, Literatures and International Studies.
Spanish Club
¡Bienvenidos! Spanish Club is a fun and inclusive environment for all levels of Spanish fluency. We spend our time watching movies, playing board games, dancing, and working to support our local and global communities. ¡Nos vemos pronto!
French Club
The goal of French Club is to promote and study the French language, learn about French-speaking cultures and traditions, and unify the campus and the greater Marquette Community around the French Language and culture.
German Club
The German Club meets regularly to promote the study and appreciation of the German language alongside the history, culture, and traditions of the German-speaking world. We host regular events, including weekly film nights, collaborations with the other language clubs, provide resources to help get ready for study abroad, and more!
Club ASL
Club ASL promotes the study of American Sign Language and the appreciation and understanding of Deaf culture by organizing educational and cultural activities open to all interested members of the University and local community.
Future Educators of NMU
Language education majors are welcome to join this group! The purpose of FENMU is to create a space for education majors of Northern Michigan University to gather, learn, and grow through camaraderie, educational programs, and thought-provoking conversation. FENMU also works to provide access to internships and volunteer opportunities in the area to give you the experience you need to succeed as an educator.
