Keeping your college process moving forward

The current national financial aid delay might be bringing your college process to a standstill. Northern Michigan University knows making your decision on which college to attend can be really difficult when you don’t have all the pieces yet. We get it - and, we want to help. That’s why NMU is making changes to housing and orientation registration refund/payment deferment policies giving you the flexibility to keep moving forward in your college selection process.

TWO THINGS YOU CAN DO WHILE YOU WAIT

FAFSA information is arriving to colleges and universities, and as NMU receives your information we will do our best to provide your financial aid notice shortly after. Some students may have to make corrections to their FAFSA, other students may be waiting for corrections from the Department of Education, but we're doing our best to keep everyone informed. As you wait,  NMU is making it easy for you to take care of two critical steps without financial risk: signing up for housing and orientation.

Apply for housing

APPLY FOR HOUSING

HOUSING FEES CAN BE FULLY REFUNDABLE
All payments required for housing, including the $50 application and the $200 advanced payment will be fully refundable until May 15, 2024.  This change provides opportunities for you to reserve your spot in line for room selection and participate in roommate matching as you wait for your financial aid notice to arrive and your final decisions to be made.

Register for Orientation

REGISTER FOR ORIENTATION

NO FEE AT TIME OF ORIENTATION REGISTRATION

When you register for new student orientation at NMU, your orientation payment will be deferred (no payment at time of registration) until May 15, 2024. This means you can reserve your orientation date and still have flexibility when your financial aid notice arrives to choose whether to attend or not.
