Dan is a 1996 graduate of NMU with an associate degree in criminal justice and a 1996 fall graduate of the NMU Regional Police Academy. During his time at NMU, he worked as a student for NMU Public Safety as a dispatcher. His career started in Menominee, Michigan, as a Police Officer in 1996. He met his wife Jenny in Menominee, and they have been married since 1998.
He went on to serve with departments in the Marinette/Menominee area, including eight years as a Detective with the Marinette County Sheriff's Office. He had specialized training in death investigations, Internet crimes, financial crimes, evidence technician, and a nationally certified Fire Investigation Technician. He received numerous awards throughout his career, including meritorious service awards, and was recognized by the FBI for his role in the arrest of a bank robber.
In 2019, he was elected Sheriff of Florence County Wisconsin. During his time as Sheriff, he oversaw the startup of the first K9 program for Florence County, a complete remodeling of the entire agency, including the jail and a new 911 system. He was a member of the Badger State Sheriff Association and became a board member for that organization. He was selected for the National Sheriff Institute in Denver, Colorado, where he spent a week with other Sheriffs from across the country learning about advanced leadership.
In January of 2025, Dan retired from Law Enforcement and began his second career. He is currently the Director of Safety for Valley Express trucking in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. His career now focuses on safety, compliance for all laws involving transportation, licensing, permits, hiring of new employees, and company security.
