Your @alumni.nmu.edu email address/account can be created with any desired name. First initial followed by the last name is commonly used, for example: firstname.lastname@example.org.
How do I set up my account?
First, your alumni status will be verified by providing the following information:
- First Name
- Last Name
- Last four digits of social security number
- Current email address: A confirmation email will be sent to this address and will contain a temporary password and instructions for establishing your Gmail account and your initial log in.
Once alumni status is verified, you will set up your Gmail account.
- When prompted, enter your desired email address (email@example.com) and click “Create.” Your Gmail account will be created.
- Next a confirmation message will appear confirming your user name. A temporary password will be presented at this time. (This temporary password will also be sent to the email address you provided prior.)
- Log in and begin using your email and other services provided.
What if I already have an @alumni.nmu.edu email account?
If you already have an @alumni.nmu.edu email account, you will login at gmail.com.
I forgot my password. How can I reset it?

How is Google Involved
Google and its web-based email program Gmail are the engines that power Alumni Email. Each account provides users with an unlimited amount of storage, fast Google searches, and powerful spam protection. In addition, users also have access to Google Calendars to store all of their important dates and events on.
I've signed up for an Alumni Email account. How do I access it?
After you fill out the Alumni Email sign-up form, you will receive a login and temporary password within one business day. Visit https://mail.google.com to login to your new Alumni Email account.
Can I access my Alumni Email in an external mail client?
Yes! Configuring your Alumni Email account in an external mail client (Microsoft Outlook, Lotus Notes, etc.) is easy and can be achieved using POP or IMAP access. After logging in to Alumni Email, click the cog wheel button in the top right-hand corner and then "Mail settings." After the settings page appears, select the "Forwarding and POP/IMAP" tab. Enable the option you'd like to use (IMAP is recommended) and follow the configuration instructions linked in that section. Remember to use your full email address as your username. Can I access my Alumni Email on my cell phone?
Yes! Alumni Email powered by Google can be setup on most data-enabled cell phones, like the iPhone, Blackberry, Android and phones running Windows Mobile. Cell phone access can be done via your mobile browser by visiting https://mail.google.com, by enabling IMAP on your account and setting up Alumni Email as an email account on your phone or the Gmail IOS/Android app from the app store.
