NMU Alumni Hubs

Connect with fellow Northern Michigan University Alumni in your area or affinity by participating in an Alumni Hub!

Alumni hubs can be geographically, affinity or industry/employer-based. For example, a regional hub would include alumni in your region. Geographic regions are identified by NMU Alumni Relations and are generally areas with the largest alumni populations.

Do you want to keep your campus ties strong after you leave campus? Affinity hubs connect alumni from academic majors, athletics/club teams, residence halls or student organizations. In some areas, you’ll find several alumni working in the same industry, often for the same employer.

With more than 72,000 alumni nationwide, the Alumni Hubs are a resource for alumni to make personal and professional connections wherever you are!

Hub Ambassadors

What is a Hub Ambassador?

Alumni ambassadors serve as a primary point of contact for alumni in their region or affinity.

Serve as a point of contact for alumni in your region or affinity.

Your name will be listed on the Alumni Hubs page of the Alumni Relations website. Alumni who want to get involved can email Alumni Relations and staff will pass their contact information on to you.
Proudly wear your NMU Green ‘N Gold during events

Act as a liaison with the NMU Alumni Relations Office.

Share NMU information relevant to alumni in your hub
Promote upcoming virtual and in-person alumni events in your hub
Share feedback from alumni in your hub with the Alumni Relations Office
Share life events (as appropriate) of fellow alumni in your hub

Assist Alumni Relations staff with university-initiated event planning

Help Alumni Relations staff by advising on event locations in your area, welcoming alumni, answering questions, helping attendees mingle at events and sharing event details with alumni in your region

Plan and execute events and activities for your hub (region or affinity).

Coordinate events in your region or affinity, like a pre-game event before an NMU athletic contest taking place in your area or an informal meet-up (group coffee chat, Happy Hour, etc.)

Share relevant information in the NMU Alumni group on Facebook and/or LinkedIn (as you are comfortable).

Post upcoming events, fellow alumni success stories, or other NMU news on the official NMU Alumni social media groups

Desired skills, attributes, and competencies:

Passion for NMU
Desire to connect, network, and share your experience with fellow alumni
Basic computer skills; proficiency with email and social media
Basic knowledge of your geographic area and ability to identify popular, local locations and activities
Respect all NMU alumni and friends at all times

Benefits, training, time commitment, and other information:

Liaises with: NMU Alumni Relations and members of the Alumni Board of Directors.

Benefits: Alumni ambassadors can grow their personal and professional networks, enjoy social events and be among the first to receive NMU updates.

Training Provided: On-going support from Alumni Relations and the Alumni Board of Directors. Conference/virtual calls with other ambassadors, regular hub updates (frequency to be determined)

Estimated Time Commitment: 2-10 hours/month. Remember, this is a volunteer opportunity, and you can choose to step away from this role at any time.
