Mission Statement

The College of Arts and Sciences acts as a catalyst for creative and independent thought.  It evokes critical thinking and effective communication through active learning, and stimulates lifelong learning habits and development of career skills.  Its varied programs encourage diversity, cultural enrichment, and community engagement.

Accreditation

Northern Michigan University is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC). The two departments within the College of Arts and Sciences with INDIVIDUAL accreditation are chemistry by the American Chemical Society and music by the National Association of Schools of Music.
