Program Overview
The Secondary Education Biology major combines coursework in biology and other scientific disciplines with a robust professional education curriculum. Successful completion of this major will prepare students for certification as a secondary school teacher in biology. To broaden their academic scope, students in this program also complete an academic minor in another department. Advising for this major is provided by the School of Education.
Degree Curriculum
A minimum of 137 credits are required for students enrolled in this major. In addition, an academic minor in a discipline other than Biology is required (a minor in Chemistry is recommended). Typically a student who completes the full major curriculum at NMU will complete 139 credits. The program curriculum includes:
- Required Biology courses (40 credits)
- Other sciences (30 to 32 credits)
- Professional Education courses (37 credits)
- General Education courses (30 to 40 credits)
