Nyan Lynn has over 16 years of journalism experience as a reporter, editor and publisher. He started his career at a local news media organization in Myanmar/Burma during the time of the military junta. He also worked with some foreign media outlets as a stringer as well as an undercover reporter for some years, using pseudonyms to avoid the junta's attention. As a freelancer, he mainly contributed news and feature stories on humanitarian issues to the Integrated Regional Information Networks (IRIN News). In 2012, he co-founded Mawkun, an in-depth and investigative monthly, which is published in Burmese. He earned a Master of Arts in journalism from Emerson College in 2017 and a doctorate in journalism from University of Kansas in 2021. Before he joined NMU, he worked with KU School of Journalism and Mass Communications as a lecturer and assistant professor of the practice. Through his professional and academic works, he is endeavoring to set journalism standards and contribute to mentoring young journalists.
