Graduate Student Commencement Regalia

 

Graduation regalia is purchased through the NMU Bookstore

Please Note: Graduate students do not receive honors cords. All students graduating with a master’s degree are considered to be graduating with honors by default. Therefore, it is not necessary to purchase honors cords.

All graduate students who order commencement regalia should receive:

  • Black robe
  • Black cap
  • Hood that aligns with your program of study
  • Tassel that matches the velvet color on your hood

Register for Graduation

All degree-seeking students must register for graduation when adding your final semester classes, whether participating in the commencement ceremony or not.

  • Log in to your MyNMU account.
  • Open Course Registration
    • add the Graduation course (CA 000)
    • Choose the section that fits your plans:
      • Section 03 – Ceremony
      • Section 04 – No Ceremony
  • Deadline: Register by end of day of first Thursday of the semester

Important: You must be registered for a minimum of one credit in the semester you plan to graduate . 

If You Miss the Deadline

  • Online graduation registration closes on the first Thursday of the semester.
  • If you decide to graduate later in the semester, complete the Request to Add Graduation form.
  • Email the completed form to: graduate@nmu.edu.

Once submitted, a degree audit will be completed to determine eligibility for graduation. 

Diplomas

Diplomas will be mailed to the permanent address on file with the university approximately six to eight weeks after the date of graduation.

The name printed on the diploma will be the same as the name on the student’s academic record. Any change to that name such as the inclusion of a middle name or maiden name must be submitted to the Graduate Studies Office prior to registering for graduation.
