MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING #4
BETWEEN NORTHERN MICHIGAN UNIVERSITY AND LOCAL 2178, UAW
This Memorandum of Understanding executed between Northern Michigan University (hereinafter referred to as the University) and the International Union, United Automobile, Aerospace, and Agricultural Implement Workers of America (UAW) Local 2178 (hereinafter referred to as the Union), the recognized bargaining unit agent for Administrative / Professional employees of the University, whereas the parties agree as follows:
- The establishment of a Merit Recognition Program (MRP). This program is intended to recognize and reward high performance of A/P employees.
- The program will be centrally funded for $25,000 each fiscal year. Awards will be paid according to the following terms:
- 20 awards each year at $1,250
- Deductions include all applicable taxes and withholdings
- Award paid in first possible payroll cycle post the selection and communication process
- Employee must be on payroll the date of payment
- Awarded once a year at the end of the performance year (July 1 – June 30)
- First selection/award process will take place in September of 2022.
- Eligibility Criteria:
- Employee must have been in the position for the whole performance year
- Promotions received due to career laddering will not disqualify the employee
- Employee must receive a performance rating of highly effective for the performance year or a letter of support from the individual’s direct supervisor if no performance review was given during the performance year
- Employee must not have received a merit recognition award in previous performance year
- Employee must have been in the position for the whole performance year
- Nomination and Selection Process:
- Employee can nominate themselves
- One over one management approval
- Submitted to MRP Selection Committee. The Committee shall consist of the following individuals:
- President of A/P union or their designee
- Head of Human Resources or their designee
- AP employee, a previous MRP award winner if possible
- Senior Administrator or Senior Manager, cannot be a supervisor of a nominated individual
