ENVIRONMENTAL PHOTOGRAPHER GIVES TALK AT NMU

Monday 2, 2009
John Ganis, a photographer who has spent more than two decades visually documenting the environmental impact of overdevelopment and resource exploitation, will give a free public presentation at Northern Michigan University. His talk is scheduled for 6 p.m. Monday, March 9, in Mead Auditorium in the West Science Building.

Ganis is a guest of the DeVos Art Museum in conjunction with its "Beyond Green: Toward a More Sustainable Art" exhibit. He created a body of work that was published in 2003 as a monograph titled "Consuming the American Landscape." Using straight-color photographs in a way that is "descriptive yet somewhat poetic, Ganis provokes a process of inquiry and concern in the viewer."
