NMU CELEBRATES WOMEN’S HISTORY MONTH

            MARQUETTE—Northern Michigan University will hold four presentations over the remainder of March in honor of Women’s History Month. The following events are free and open to the public:           

Wednesday, March 18: Mary Pelton-Cooper and Maya Sen of the NMU psychology department will present “The History of Women in Psychology: Overcoming Sex, Gender and Politics” at 11 a.m. in Hedgcock 2303. That same evening, graduate student Rae’Kheal Alexander will present “Becoming a Women of Confidence” at 6 p.m. in Pioneer Room A of the University Center.

            Thursday, March 19: Susan Koch, NMU provost and vice president for academic affairs, will give a talk titled “Phantoms at the Gate: Reflecting on Women and the Academy via Virginia Woolf’s ‘The Professions for Women.’” Her session begins at 6 p.m. in the Charcoal Room of the University Center.

            Wednesday, March 25: Ruth Watry, political science professor, will give the final presentation, “History of the Women’s Suffrage Movement in the United States.” The event is scheduled for 6 p.m. in Pioneer Room B of the University Center.

            The workshops are sponsored by the NMU multicultural education and resource center. For more information, call 227-1554.
